ayanna-kai asked: Assalamu alaikum! I love Vela Scarves and want to purchase one but I wanted to know if the hijabs have to be worn in the Vela way. Like, are they designed specifically to be worn that way or can you wear them in different styles?
Wa’alykumisalam! Thank you for your question…the video tutorial is used as a standard guide, but you dont have to nec’essarily tie it like that. We’ve seen a couple of girls take the basics but add their own flair to it.
Anonymous asked: wow! I love the new vela mod-est post of that noor girl! thats so inspiring! can we see more of her??????????? or was this just for one time? and i want to purchase the scarf shes wearing but its sold out!
Thank you, and no we just interviewed her like we do for many girls who wear a Vela scarf. There are so many muslimahs around the world who go out and do inspiring things and Noor is one of those amazing women that show the empowerment of wearing a hijab. :) The Pleated Chain has been restocked!
Anonymous asked: Salaam! Where do you buy most of your outfits from ? (they're amazing, mA)
wa’alykumisalam, thank you! I actually list the brand and stores my garments are from in each picture. xxo
Vela Mod-est Girl
We had the pleasure of interviewing another Vela Mod-est girl! Noor Tagouri, based out of Washington DC, is a fashionable muslimah that interns at a radio station and performs spoken word on her down time. Check out our one-on-one interview with her where she reveals how wearing the hijab inspires her to be creative with her outfits and use it as a tool to spread awareness about hijab.
Describe you sense of style?
I have a very “me” style. I’ll go from urban and edgy to business and crisp and different styles in between, just based on where I’m going or what the occasion is. My Vela scarf goes with whatever mood I decide to dress in.
What is your take on being a Vela Mod-est Girl?
In the fashion world, “mod” is a term used for “stylish” or “fashionable” in the Muslim fashion world, “mod” is being modestly fashionable, and that is exactly what Vela helps me do. Fashion is a beauty, and it’s a form of enjoyment to look at and appreciate other’s art. Honestly, this is even heightened when it comes to Muslim fashion, because lately Muslimas have gotten so creative with their fashion, and pull off things you wouldn’t be able to pull off otherwise. I remember when I first started wearing hijab, I would put together outfits, and think to myself, “I’d never come up with something like this if I didn’t wear hijab! I love it!”
Noor Tagouri with Ashanti
So we heard Ashanti compliment your Pleated Chain hijab, tell us about your experience!
I’ve worn my Pleated Chain Vela scarf on numerous occasions, from work to weddings. I work for CBS Radio in Washingon D.C, and I remember wearing my Vela scarf when Ashanti, the singer, came into the studio for an interview. Her and crew commented on my Vela scarf, and how lovely it looked. It was great, because I was a Muslim, hijab girl, getting complimented by this world renown artist, courtesy of Vela.
Free, the previous host of 106 and Park, an artist, and a radio personality at the station I work at also always compliments my scarves, and adores the Pleated Chain from Vela. These compliments have led me to talking to these women about modesty in Islam, and why we wear the hijab. Fashion and faith…all in one conversation!
What do you think sets your Vela scarf apart from the ordinary scarves you buy?
I absolutely LOVE the Vela style, because people usually focus on your face, and when you cover, your hijab. Wearing a Vela scarf is the PERFECT accessory to a simple, modest outfit. I can throw on a comfy outfit, plain and simple tee and jeans, and the Vela scarf steps it up to the next level. You already pay $30+ dollars for that favorite shirt with ruffles and a design, but we don’t wear shirts over again, as often as we do scarves…so I love that a small investment in a Vela scarf goes a much longer way than that cute ruffle shirt I bought for $35.
Thank you Noor for this amazing interview!
xxo Vela Team
